A moderately strong storm system moved through the northern Rockies last week, giving a slight bump to the region’s snowpack. For anglers living in southcentral Montana, northern Wyoming, and along Colorado’s front range the 7-day change in snowpack was positive.
Even with the recent storm, snowpack across the US West is lagging compared to long-term averages. See the image below for your region-wide snapshot as of March 23, 2022.
With the current levels being what they are, anglers should expect an early spring snowmelt runoff period and a longer than expected period of low-water come summer.
The hope is a major shift in storm patterns occur and the US West begins to receive normal amounts of spring precipitation.
